The Marais District, Paris, France
Designer Jérémy Chaillou has created an elegant contemporary flat in Paris’s iconic Marais district, where mahogany and stone engage in a dialogue with history.
The main axis of the interior runs from the kitchen to the dining room, crosses the threshold marked by a mirrored step, and then continues through the living room to the fireplace. This is the apartment’s main axis, along which many key elements are situated: a mirror creating perspective and reflections, limestone on the exposed walls and floor, and colourful ancient curved beams on the ceiling. The beams are an important part of the interior — they give structure to the space and impose their own rhythm, whilst the second axis — perpendicular to the main one — runs from the living room to the bedroom.
The sculptural, modernist kitchen forms the beating heart of this contemporary interior.
The design of the bedroom, finished in stained red wood, is reminiscent of a ship’s cabin or a boudoir.
