French interior designer Pierre Jovanovic has completed a renovation project for a unique five-storey mansion with an area of 1,200 square metres in the suburbs of the Belgian capital, Ixelles. Behind the original brick and stone façade of the house, built in 1910, lies an artistic balance of comfort and cosiness thanks to the noble materials and individual solutions of the French master.

Pierre Yovanovitch: “The brief from the family was to have a warm and bright house, so my work consisted of bringing natural light inside the building.”

The children of the homeowners have been given free rein on the top floor, with three bedrooms, a bathroom, a sitting room and a terrace. Living spaces take up the first floor – reception areas, living and family rooms – with the master suite and bathrooms on the second storey.

Pierre Yovanovitch: “The eclecticism of the house is what makes it interesting. I like it when the furniture is in dialogue with the art.”

Pierre Yovanovitch: “I love the materials for which you feel the hand of an artisan. For me, it is what humanises a place and gives it personality.”
