Classical Futurism in Jean-Louis Deniot’s Baker collection

Baker & Jean-Louis Deniot
 Classic contemporary or futuristic classic

This spring, the renowned American brand Baker unveiled its first collaborative ‘commercial’ collection with the French interior designer Jean-Louis Denio. Denio’s clientele includes some of the world’s wealthiest individuals, heirs and heiresses to aristocratic families, and prominent politicians… The collection, which took nine months to create, emerged at the intersection of Baroque influences and cool minimalism: the decorator’s generous references to various eras of the twentieth century are rendered in muted greys and soft shades of ivory.  In  this new collection for Baker, she has succeeded in convincingly creating an eclectic space that is characteristic of the present day.

Jean-Louis Deniot: “Baker’s style is eclectic and rich; it’s larger than life. I couldn’t have hoped for a better collaboration. We’re a perfect match...”

Jean-Louis Deniot: “This collection is not some ‘whim’ of mine; I took great care to ensure that the furniture remained true to the spirit and letter of the style associated with Baker. I would call it a contemporary classic, or ‘classical futurism’.”  I was influenced by 20th-century vintage pieces and memories of the great interiors of the past. But I didn’t want to lose, amidst all this grandeur, the sense of relaxation and… sensuality inherent in each piece. The charm of self-assurance – that is the secret to success and appeal!”

The Denio collection is characterised by its near-perfect geometric symmetry. The interior designer believes that luxury is ‘a balance between elements and perfect architectural proportions’. The fabrics’ texture, which feels comfortable to the touch, shimmers in the daylight and changes hue depending on the time of day. Antique gilding adorns the Art Deco-style elements without being overly conspicuous. An interior featuring furniture from Baker by Jean-Louis Denio guarantees an aristocratic, harmonious and sensuous comfort suited to everyday life.

Baker, a leading designer and manufacturer of fine home furnishings, today unveils its new collection by world renowned designer and architect, Jean-Louis Deniot – a breadth of work that spans an impressive 80 pieces in total, including casegoods, upholstery, lighting and accessories. The collaboration with Paris-based Deniot brings an exciting and fresh addition to Baker’s acclaimed Guest Designer Series.
Recognized globally for his eclectic and emblematic interiors, Deniot draws upon his academic training to translate his designs that are both informal and bold. He does not prescribe to favoring minimalism or excess and describes his collection for Baker as classic contemporary or futuristic classic.
