Upgraded Long Island home by Athena Calderone

Before & After

Renowned New York interior designer Athena Calderone, who runs the lifestyle
fashion blog Eye Swoon, recently renovated her home in the East Hampton town
of Amagansett on Long Island, New York. The mid-20th century country house
was purchased by Calderone in 2009. At the same time, the new owner carried
out the first renovation. Ten years later, the designer updated her residence.

Before

Athena Calderone :
"I wanted to play with textures, diversify the materials, reupholster the soft
furnishings and also add some light, as everything was starting to look
a bit dark, heavy and outdated."

The combination of new and old is a personal feature of Athena Calderone:
“I like the opposition of materials, I love the contrast of styles and time periods.
There is a particular tension between them, and I think this allows for a more
expressive design, because the objects make you hold your eyes.” About 3/4
of the items that appeared in the house are designer
artifacts, vintage and antiques.

The fronts of the kitchen furniture have been replaced with new ones,
painted in a pale green from the Farrow & Ball palette, which echoes
the marble veins of the kitchen backsplash.
