A series of 10 contemporary flats located in Melbourne's prestigious Armadale suburb.

Residence One is one of ten residences that form part of 35 Orchard Piper Street, Huntingtower Road

Set in a wide and green suburban side street, the Huntingtower Road apartments appear more like a bespoke house than a multi-home complex. 

Jolson Architecture and Interiors design director Mat Wright:

 “We have been interested in arches as a form and talked about them on previous projects because we wanted to explore the ways light falls on curves, and how that can bring a softness, to the architecture.”

Interior features include  two separate living areas, wide marble kitchen island benches, stone fireplaces and three-meter-high ceilings. The external materiality carries into the interiors beyond the unusually wide window sills, further extending the garden experience indoors. Expansive white walls offer residents to display paintings and bespoke design objects. 

Residence One is characterised by ‘curvatures’ that bring a sense of fluidity, just as the textural and subdued material palette inside and out summon a sense of ease, letting the indoors and outdoors speak as one.

“These arches have been sculpted in a contemporary manner to not only interact with the light, but also to create a ‘veil’ for the residents. In time, plants will cascade from the roof to provide another ‘sheer’ for this unique development, the effect of which evokes being within a garden.”
