Sandra Bullock on her passion for design and architecture:

“Since being an actress was not something I thought I would be allowed to do past a certain time, every penny I made I would invest into real estate. Architecture was supposed to be the back-up plan, but thankfully times have changed and we are now allowed to have more than one ‘thing’ we do in life”

Sandra Bullock has restored a 19th-century townhouse in Manhattan that she purchased more than 20 years ago. Bullock was particularly drawn to the spacious living room, the original fireplaces and the garden behind the house.

Sandra Bullock:

“I am no fine artist, but I can walk into a building, and I can feel what the space wants to be. I just need to find the fine artists that can execute what’s in my head.”

The Bullock antiques collection has been complemented by unconventional pieces, such as sofas flanking the fireplace in the living room, creating a cosy conversation area. Nearby, an antique Flemish tapestry adorns a high wall.

The AD100 duo Ariel Ashe and Reinaldo Leandro of Ashe Leandro and an experienced team of artisans of 15 nationalities helped restore the house to its former beauty.
