A woodland villa in earthy tones, or the renovation of a house built in 1956, situated in the woods on the outskirts of Laren, North Holland.

Clean lines and minimalist forms come together with refined finishes and a strong eye for detail. Every element in the home is designed to enhance a sense of calm and well-being, with nature brought indoors through a soft palette of earthy tones and natural materials.

Every piece of art has a message and meaning behind it and elicits emotion from the viewer. While adding mood and contributing to the vision of the space.

A muted palette, clean lines and minimal forms combined with luxurious finishes and attention to detail. Everything in the house contributes to the feeling of well-being.

Bertram Beerbaum: “It was a golden opportunity: a spacious plot with a bungalow in the woods, situated on the outskirts of Laren, where my company Kabaz’s studio is also located. I knew I wanted to make the 1956 house substantially larger and that I would therefore need to carry out a major extension. For a very brief moment, I considered demolishing the existing house and erecting a completely new building: as far as I’m concerned, the history of an existing home can actually be a wonderful starting point. It took quite a bit of creativity to achieve the desired floor area whilst staying within the constraints of the local planning regulations, but fortunately I have access to experienced and creative architects within my company. The house is set well back on the plot, as if it had fallen into the woods. Huge glass walls on the garden side bring the outdoors inside. Nature – the grass and the trees – really does reach right up to the windows; when you look outside, you feel as though you’re in a breathtaking painting. As if the house had tumbled straight into the woods. The house is built in such a way that you have an incredible amount of privacy; you can’t see any neighbours from anywhere.”
