A complete refurbishment of a flat, including a redesign, in a building constructed in the 1960s in the 11th arrondissement, in the eastern part of central Paris, which borders the legendary Place de la Bastille, Place de la République and Place de la Nation.
The architects did not want the flat to look like a perfectly preserved set; rather, they wanted it to have a distinct architectural character - without traditional décor, panelling or vintage embellishments. The home’s headline act, the Rosso travertine kitchen island, features a bust by Patrick Aumont.
Agathe Lavaud: “We were drawn to the atmosphere of Italian palazzi; their travertine, marble, aged patinas and Marmorino plaster finishes, and to the work of Carlo Scarpa for his craftsmanship and detailing.”
The open-plan living room, dining area, and kitchen face southwest to catch afternoon sunlight and to watch the sun set over Parisian rooftops—one of their favourite things to do as a family.
