Contemporary design, tradition and a fireworks display of shapes: Terreo Studio has designed the interiors of La Calera, a residential complex of five houses in Tulum, Mexico.
Inspired by regional traditions and crafted with local materials to blend contemporary design with nature, this project reinterprets Mediterranean and colonial influences through robust volumes, arched corridors and private patios across five houses within a residential complex.
Each house – Casa Agave, Casa Cedro, Casa Piña, Casa Dzalbay and Casa Palma – features local materials like Chukum, Crema Maya marble and tropical woods, creating a warm, textural architecture that invites rest and privacy.
Designed as an urban oasis, La Calera harmonises contemporary living with the cultural and natural richness of the Yucatán.
Arches reminiscent of folk style, smooth transitions between interior and exterior spaces, and a palette of materials that emphasises texture, warmth and naturalness — every detail establishes a subtle dialogue between local and foreign, between tradition and reinterpretation.
